Ο James Gunn με αναρτήσεις που έκανε στον προσωπικό του λογαριασμό του στο Twitter ανακοίνωσε πως μαζί με τον Peter Safran πρόκειται να ετοιμάσουν μια νέα ταινία για τον Superman (δεν θα έχει κάποια σχέση μ' αυτή του Ta-Nehisi Coates), με τον Henry Cavill να μην έχει τον πρωταγωνιστικό ρόλο. Ο Gunn άφησε ανοιχτό το ενδεχόμενο ο Cavill να εμφανιστεί κάποια στιγμής στο νέο σύμπαν της DC Comics με κάποιον άλλο χαρακτήρα. Ο Henry Cavill επιβεβαίωσε (https://deadline.com/2022/12/henry-cavill-confirms-exit-as-superman-1235199784/) πως αφήνει την κάπα του Man of Steel με ανακοίνωση που ανέβασε στο Instagram.

O James Gunn θα γράψει το σενάριο του πρότζεκτ, το οποίο είναι το πρώτο της καινούργιας εποχής του DCU, και προς το παρόν δεν έχει γίνει γνωστό ποιος πρόκειται να καθίσει στην καρέκλα του σκηνοθέτη. Η ταινία δεν θα είναι ιστορία προέλευσης και σύμφωνα με πληροφορίες του TheWrap (https://www.thewrap.com/james-gunn-write-next-superman-script-dc-studios/) θα αφορά τον νεαρό Superman που μόλις θα έχει μετακομίσει στην Metropolis. Τα DC Studios θα βρίσκονται στην παραγωγή και οι Gunn και Peter Safran εκτός συγκλονιστικού απροόπτου θα έχουν καθήκοντα παραγωγού.

Ο Christopher Reeve υποδύθηκε τον Superman στα Superman, Superman II, Superman III και Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, ο Brandon Routh τον ενσάρκωσε στην ταινία Superman Returns, ενώ ο Henry Cavill είχε τον ρόλο στα Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League και Zack Snyder's Justice League.

εγώ θα συμφωνήσω με την απόφαση αυτή. Δε λέω καλός ο Κάβιλ αλλά όταν γύριζε την πρώτη ταινία ήταν 28-29 χρονών , τώρα πόσο θα ήταν όταν και αν ξεκινούσε γυρίσματα μια νέα ταινία 42?Είδαμε πως πήγε και ο μεσήλικας Μπάτμαν με τον Άφλεκ... Άφου άργησε να γίνει η ταινία man of steel 2 πάει τώρα. Μια ανανέωση με ηλικιακά νεότερο ηθοποιό και να έχουμε τον ήρωα σε νεότερη ηλικία στην νεα ταινία ίσως πάει καλά όπως έγινε και με τον σπάιντερμαν του Χόλαντ.
